Topic: searching for ruby romhack?
hey so I dont really give a shit about this, but my friend is insisting I make a post asking if anyone recognizes this romhack of ruby and I guess I'm drunk enough to oblige.
at least, we're assuming it's a romhack? Tang has a homebrewed console, whatever the fuck that means, so he downloaded a copy of ruby for me to play except apparently it's... wrong? I wouldn't fucking know, I've never played a pokemon game before, but Tang says it's wrong. the rival is different or something? Tang doesn't know how to capture images from his device, but he drew a picture of the rival, if it helps. that's all the differences we've noticed so far, I'm still at the very beginning of the game.

the rival, Eemeli, is... weird? I put my name in as Umbra but he's been addressing me by my real name. the hack being able to read from the device wouldn't explain it, since this isn't mine in the first place, and Tang says that isn't how the 3ds works anyway. maybe it's just a coincidence mine was used for this hack? my name isn't the most uncommon in the world, I guess.

I'm not familiar with this particular rom hack, and I find it HIGHLY doubtful that someone was able to code an AI in Pokemon Ruby of all things. AI has been used in mods for things like Stardew Valley, but even then it uses an outside program like ChatGPT, and it isn't nearly the highly advanced level of being able to respond to vocal input like you're claiming. Are you sure you're not just making things up, mate?

I'm completely stuck. the game already had some hiccups, trying to work around where I assume Team Magma must've been before, but now it's just.... broken. probably because I'm far enough into the game there's supposed to be some big showdown? I have no idea. I can move to and from places I've already been, but there's no way for me to progress further -- I tried going to mt. pyre, which is where Tang says I'm supposed to go next, but the game crashed and Eemeli told me not to try to do that again upon booting it back up. there's nothing for me to do except train, fill my dex, and talk to Eemeli.

Well, lets say that you're telling the truth, and someone really did make a vocal recognition program and AI for this new rival. It wouldn't be unreasonable to assume the hack would be centered around him instead of the typical main storyline, wouldn't it? So what's his deal?
